Game Description

I wanted to build off from the first tutorial game we made as a class. I took the simple game and added other factors into it. Such as different levels where the speed of the monsters increase every 10 seconds. Every 10 seconds there is a level counter which increases. Every 10 seconds the speed of the bullets increases as well to keep up with the faster monsters. I also added in another weapon, when the mouse in right clicked the player spawns a bomb which kills a monster in 2 hits instead of 5 with the bullets.

The biggest challenge I had was figuring out how to make the speed of the monsters increase over time.

I wanted to create a health bar for the player so the player could get hit by a monster a few times before dying.

You play as USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51), an Arleigh Burke Flight I Class US Navy Guided Missile Destroyer, defending yourself from an onslaught of PLA Navy patrol boats. Use your rockets and 5 inch cannon to sink enemies. Use your 20mm Phalanx CIWS auto cannon to shoot down incoming rockets.

I created and imported the sprites for an enemy destroyer to go along with the standard patrol boats but I didn’t have time to work them into the program.

I would have made an ending to the boss and add more mechanics to the tutorial and use those mechanics in the boss fight.

The “Eyeball Game” is a 2D shooter game where the player is an eyeball that shoots blood to kill its opponents. Each opponent has its own unique power (the bigeye monsters spawn purple minion monsters, the “Lila” themed monster turns every opponent invisible if you are touched by her and you must shoot blood at her to make them visible again, and the “Kaia” themed monster releases fast and deadly butterflies to chase the player when she is shot).

  • Making sure to hit the save button before closing the tab (I learned this the hard way)
  • Giving each sprite its own unique behavior 
  • The artwork took a lot of time to complete especially considering I am not very artistically inclined
  • Being able to gauge how many sprites there should be in the game to make it challenging enough but not possible

If I had more time I would have made a “win” screen once all the fish were destroyed, but it still works because there are too many fish that replicate too fast to destroy them all.

The health bars took me the longest to make by far, it was difficult to make both of them functional and to make the values change was pretty hard to figure out.

A scoring system like a timer or something to track how well you’re doing.

I would add a scoring system and maybe add some different backgrounds. There was also some strangeness with the movement of the rocket which I would have liked to sort out.
